McCarthy Denning’s Insurance and Reinsurance Team Strengthened by New Partner Sara Ager
City law firm McCarthy Denning has appointed Sara Ager as a new Partner in its Insurance and Reinsurance Team. Sara has joined from insurance law firm EC3 Legal and her appointment is the latest in a number of lateral hires made by the firm, since the start of 2019, across the breadth of its corporate and commercial practice areas. The firm recently announced the addition of James Froud as Partner and Head of Employment.
With over 20 years of experience, Sara is a widely recognised legal practitioner within the financial services industry, and she has previously worked in and for Lloyd’s managing agencies, Bermudian reinsurers, MGA’s and brokers. Sara’s diverse practice spans all areas within the insurance sector. Sara has extensive experience in advising, setting up and securing regulatory/Lloyd’s approval on behalf of brokers and MGA businesses. She regularly advises her clients on a variety of matters, including risk management, compliance, regulatory and commercial issues affecting businesses operating in the insurance industry. In addition, Sara is actively involved in assisting both existing and new firms adapt to changing societal and customer needs, as well as advising and leading insurtech businesses to thrive in the established insurance ecosystem.
Logical and creative in her approach to advising clients, Sara specialises in helping businesses to bridge the gap between ‘front end’ commercial ambition and meeting the relevant regulatory and legal requirements. A well-known figure within the insurance industry, she also sits on several market committees and currently holds the position of General Counsel for the Insuring Women’s Futures programme.
McCarthy Denning’s Insurance and Reinsurance Team, led by Partner Clive O’Connell, advises domestic and international businesses involved in the transfer of risk in relation to complex disputes and deals, which are often multijurisdictional. Sara will work closely with Clive to further strengthen the firm’s current insurance offering, especially in the area of insurtech, to the team’s extensive client base consisting of insurers, reinsurers, Lloyd’s syndicate, brokers, underwriting agencies, run-off entities and ILS funds.
