Fionnuala Lynch Discusses 2017 Budget On BBC Breakfast News
The Chancellor’s Spring 2017 Budget was relatively low-key. Other than a few uncharacteristically good jokes from ‘spread-sheet Phil’, the major unexpected changes were a reduction in the tax-free dividend allowance from £5,000 to £2,000 with effect from April 2018 and an increase from 9% to 10% in the rate of self-employed (Class 4) NICs in 2018/19. These changes will align the tax treatment of the employed and the self-employed.
