Sanjay Pritam brings more than 30 years of commercial legal experience to McCarthy Denning, combining the depth of expertise gained as General Counsel with the breadth of exposure from his years as a partner in private practice. His track record across the insurance, financial services, technology, manufacturing and distribution sectors enables him to provide clients with strategic and commercially grounded advice.

As General Counsel at AkinovA Ltd., a technology-driven insurance marketplace, Sanjay has been integral to the company’s development and regulatory compliance. He has managed relationships with UK and Bermuda regulatory bodies and principals, facilitated the structuring of innovative insurance and investment offerings, and oversaw the development of AkinovA’s core agreements for SaaS and marketplace services. His work has also encompassed risk and crisis management, corporate governance, and oversight of strategic fundraising, underscoring his capability to lead in complex, regulated environments.

In private practice, Sanjay spent 15 years as a partner at RPC, where he co-piloted  the Commercial & Regulatory group, advising on high-stakes projects across multiple sectors. Lloyd’s Market Association

Acted for the LMA on behalf of all (c.65) Lloyd’s managing agencies: drafted numerous market-wide mandatory and elective central services agreements for technical claims processing, and advised on policy set up and administration services, reinsurance claims and static claims adjustment.

Corporation of Lloyd’s

Advised on the structure and contractual arrangements for its central Volume Claims Service and on the early exit by Capita Commercial Insurance Services Ltd from its contracts for Lloyd’s Market Singapore Shared Services (BPO) with a number of managing agencies.  Simultaneously ran the tandem negotiation of a 3-year Master Framework Agreement with Xchanging.

Associated Newspapers Limited – IT and Distribution

Supported ANL on a wide array of initiatives, including print and production contracts, shared IT and distribution arrangements and the development of procurement documents; ensuring  compliance, operational efficiency and risk mitigation, contributing to the group’s operational continuity and growth.

National Trust – CRM System Replacement

Advised the National Trust on the termination of a CRM vendor contract, facilitating a smooth transition to a new provider;  minimized service disruptions, safeguarded member data, and maintained operational stability for the organization’s extensive membership base.

Lloyd’s Market Association & IUA – Broker Agreements

Advised on the LMA’s standard broker Terms of Business Agreements for  London market-wide use

La-Z-Boy UK – Business Re-Acquisition

Advised the US-based La-Z-Boy on reacquiring and integrating its UK and Europe operations, enabling streamlined manufacturing and distribution processes; covered every aspect of the deal, ensuring compliance and supporting the company’s expansion into key markets.

BDO LLP – International BPO Services

In 2014, Sanjay advised BDO LLP on the negotiation and structuring of its international Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) arrangements, a project that involved multiple jurisdictions and stringent compliance requirements. Sanjay’s role was instrumental in designing a service framework that balanced operational efficiency with regulatory obligations, demonstrating his capability in managing large-scale, cross-border engagements.

Post Leveson: New independent press regulator, IPSO

Worked with the Press Board of Finance on the development and documentation of a new and more effective regulatory structure following the conclusion of the Leveson Report.  90% uptake from the national press and the majority of regional publishers.

Liberty Managing Agency – Solvency II Compliance

Assisted Liberty in creating a compliance framework for its outsourced services under Solvency II regulations, enhancing the agency’s operational reliability and adherence to regulatory standards.
