What we say about Julia
Julia’s practice is diverse covering international acquisitions, banking and finance transactions and venture capital work mostly for clients in the technology, leisure and oil and gas sectors. Her vast business and legal experience enables her to come up with creative and pragmatic workable solutions as she combines her excellent technical skills with her commercial understanding. Her unflappable, personable approach has developed long- standing business relationships with her clients. Goal focused, Julia gets the deal done.
She has combined her legal career with non-executive board appointments, which means she understands the business needs and pressures of her clients, and with a sporting career which saw her represent Britain at the Barcelona Olympics.
Julia qualified as a barrister part time in 1989 while she was working on BP’s oil trading floor, winning prizes for the Law of International Trade and for Outstanding Results in her Bar Finals. She worked with Richard at Gouldens (now Jones Day) and then joined Brobeck Hale and Dorr (now WilmerHale) as its first UK lawyer. She wrote and implemented the growth strategy for the European business which saw the firm grow from 7 to over 70 lawyers and win various awards, including US Law Firm of the Year. She joined Morrison and Foerster as a partner and then took a career break to raise her children. A former client convinced her to set up her own firm acting for him, growth finance funds and the legal firms Morton Fraser and WilmerHale on corporate and banking transactions. In 2015 she joined McCarthy Denning.
Recent career highlights include:
- advising a US listed client on UK aspects of billion dollar finance deals;
