In terms of his construction and engineering expertise, Ed has worked on projects involving different types of assets: ranging from luxury hotels, high end retail stores, and residential developments through to energy and transport projects, and healthcare provision.

Ed worked in-house as one of the principal lawyers working for the Olympic Delivery Authority to help the team deliver the venues, Olympic Park and infrastructure in order to host the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In that role, he assumed a very wide range of commercial and legal responsibilities, teaching all about law in a business context.

Highlights

After studying law at Cardiff and Nottingham, Ed trained at DLA Piper and became its youngest partner at the age of 32. He then moved to Bird & Bird to head up their construction team, prior to joining McCarthy Denning.

In relation to data centres, Ed acts for many of the leading data centre developers and operators in the UK and internationally (names confidential).

Other career highlights include:

  • Acting for the Olympic Delivery Authority to help deliver the £9.6bn venues, Olympic Park and infrastructure in order to host the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Led negotiations in relation to the Aquatics Centre, Basketball, Hockey, Water Polo, International Broadcast Centre and Press Centre, and the remediation of the Olympic Park area.
  • Acting for Agility Trains in relation to the c £9bn upgrade of the East Coast Main Line.
  • Acting for a major defence contractor on a multi billion pound project to deliver training facilities and services.
  • Acting for Selfridges Plc on the construction of its Future Systems-designed department store in Birmingham, and with various designers on refurbishments to areas of the Oxford Street and Manchester stores. In the luxury retail sector, Ed has also acted for Burberry and for boutiques established in the Harrods department store.
  • Acting for the Mayborne Group in relation to the refurbishment of hotels such as The Savoy, Claridges, The Berkeley and Marriott Grosvenor Square.
