McCarthy Denning bolstered by rapidly growing Litigation Team

Original next generation law firm McCarthy Denning announces today its continued growth with the appointment of three lawyers to its Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team. Experienced commercial litigator Richard Stewart joins as a Partner alongside Consultant Solicitors, Sarah Brown and Camilla Davey. These three new litigators follow the announcement of five new recruits in August of this year, including Consultant Solicitor Laurence Sheppard who also joined the burgeoning Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team.

Prominent litigator Richard Stewart has over 30 years’ experience in the area of complex multi-jurisdictional disputes, both in-house as Head of Legal for the Channel Tunnel Consortium and in private practice at firms including Pinsent Masons (then Masons) and Bryan Cave. Richard has considerable expertise advising on disputes which give rise to concurrent proceedings in multiple jurisdictions, including asset-tracing and freezing orders, and his client base consists of large multinationals, banks, liquidators, shareholders and high net worth individuals. A significant aspect of Richard’s practice is advising Russian and other former Soviet State clients, for whom he is instructed in arbitrations and court proceedings in litigation centres such as London, Geneva, New York, Zurich, Cyprus, the British Virgin Islands and other Caribbean courts.

Having begun her legal career as a media litigation and privacy law expert, Sarah Brown’s practice is now centred on complex commercial disputes, many of which involve an international element. Sarah’s technical expertise means that she frequently advises on regulatory investigations into corporates, fraud, bribery and money laundering, as well as interim applications for freezing injunctions and the tracing of assets in the developing area of financial crime. Prior to joining McCarthy Denning, Sarah practised at City firms CMS Cameron McKenna, including in the firm’s Hong Kong office, Charles Russell (now Charles Russell Speechlys), Olswang and King & Wood Mallesons.

Camilla Davey is a seasoned litigator and dispute resolution specialist and joins McCarthy Denning from Clyde & Co. Camilla has extensive experience in large-scale, international litigation, from high-value and complex commercial fraud, through to contractual claims and claims for breach of trust, often managing complex litigation that requires the attainment of various interim injunctions under acute time pressures. Her work spans a wide range of major industries, including the technology, insurance, and IT sectors.

Ian Timlin, Head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution, comments:

“Along with other recent litigation partner recruitments, in the last three months, our litigation team has increased in size by over 50 percent. These new additions not only bolster our growing practice but highlight our international capabilities across the firm. Since being granted ABS status in March, we have gone from strength to strength and we are constantly looking to attract experienced and commercially savvy lawyers with market leading credentials to expand our commercial practice areas.”
