WHAT WE SAY ABOUT BENJAMIN
Benjamin became Compliance Office Legal Practice (COLP) and the Compliance Office Finance and Administration (COFA) in December 2015, approximately one month after he joined the board as a director. He stepped down from the board at the end of September 2017 and ceased to be COLP at the end of October 2017.
The COFA is an integral role in the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s move to outcomes-focused regulation and key to its aim that firms will take responsibility for managing risks to their delivery of legal services. As COFA, Benjamin is one of the champions of risk management and compliance within a firm, and has responsibility for the firm’s systems and controls. Benjamin is responsible for ensuring processes are in place to enable the firm, its managers and employees and anyone who has any interest in the firm to comply with the Solicitor’s Handbook requirements.
All individuals in the firm have a role to play in complying with the requirements of the Solicitor’s Handbook. However, as COFA, Benjamin has a key role in ensuring that suitable systems and controls are in place, in recording breaches, and in reporting breaches to the SRA.
